A professional board for the ELT community

The Propannex Council (ELT Professionals Board) exists to serve people who teach English, not to sell them courses. We are an independent body that sets standards, champions ethical practice and helps teachers grow throughout their careers.

From your first year in the classroom to leading a department, membership gives you a professional anchor: recognised standards to work towards, structured CPD, a research digest written for practitioners, and a global community of colleagues.

We also assess and recognise training providers against published quality criteria, so that anyone choosing where to train can do so with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Council and membership.

The Propannex Council (ELT Professionals Board) is a professional membership body for English language teaching. We set professional standards, support continuing professional development, recognise quality training providers and connect teachers, trainers and institutions across the ELT profession.
No. We do not sell or run teaching courses. We are an independent professional board: we publish standards, run a CPD framework for members, maintain a register of recognised training providers and share research and resources for practitioners.
Membership is open to practising English language teachers, teacher trainers, academic managers and institutions at any career stage, anywhere in the world. We offer student, associate, full and fellow categories.
Members receive access to our CPD pathways and webinars, the ELT Review research digest, the resource library, professional recognition routes, special interest groups and discounted places at our annual conference.
Recognised Providers are training organisations assessed against our published quality criteria. Recognition is independent of membership and is reviewed periodically. Our directory lets teachers compare providers and read in-depth, independent reviews.
The Council is led by an elected Board and supported by standing committees for standards, professional development and research. Our governance and committee remits are published on our About page.
